Garden Design

Design

With over a decade in the field and a comprehensive familiarity with ornamentals and natives, we can help you design the garden of your dreams.

Design

No matter what your garden priority is — fresh home-grown food, medicinal herbs, natural dyes and fibers for crafts, pretty flowers, low maintenance, evergreen shrubs and groundcovers, nectar bars for endangered butterflies, “pocket meadows” to rewild and restore sections of your lawn, or year-round interest in an ornamental foundation planting — our designs will bring to life the sustainable garden you desire, appropriate to your site, without the need for harmful pesticides, synthetic fertilizers or over-dependence on irrigation.

Our design goals align your lifestyle, values and ideas with our plant knowledge and the principles of regenerative gardening and habitat restoration.

Garden Walk

We walk with you in your garden discussing needs, ideas and goals while evaluating the site. After our walk you will receive a “to-do” list with plant suggestions.

This is not the same as a free consultation. It is both conversational and informative, and it provides tangible suggestions for your own independent application. It’s DIY garden advice from an actual human and experienced gardener, not an AI internet search result.

The Concept

A rough sketch, a list of plants and a summary of the design suggestion, following a remote or in-person consultation.

Remote service is available, because we are confident that based on the information given to us we can provide an appropriate design. The first step is to let you know what information we need for the site evaluation our design will be based on.

Master Plan

Our full service, from the first garden walk through site evaluation to hand-drawn renderings. The master plan includes hand-drawn perspectives and a bird’s-eye view of the overall design.

Working alongside garden stewardship

Throughout garden stewardship we will often assist in editing your existing gardens through hands-on observation of their sustainability, and knowing how to improve them along the way. For more extensive renovations and re-designing, we offer our concept and master plan design solutions in addition to ongoing care.

What it costs

To preserve our time and energy we ask for a retainer fee of $500 for all stages of design following the initial free consultation. Concepts and master plans vary from $1,000 and up depending on the scope of the work and the site.

For non-profit organizations, ask us about how we can donate our time and resources to support your work. We also offer a sliding-scale rate — see our rates and sliding scale.
